Biography

Dr. Johnston is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management. She earned her Doctor of Education (EdD) in Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia and her Master of Health Administration (MHA) from VCU/Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Prior to joining the faculty of the FSPH, Dr. Johnston served as the Director of Professional Development and Continuing Education in the Department of Health Administration at VCU/Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.

In addition, Dr. Johnston has over 22 years of experience in hospital administration in both proprietary and not-for-profit healthcare systems. Prior positions include:

  • Vice President of High Point Regional Health System in High Point, North Carolina
  • Chief Operating Officer/Vice President Operations at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville, North Carolina
  • Self-employment as a Consultant providing expertise in strategic planning and new business development for healthcare systems
  • Chief Operating Officer of HCA Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville, Georgia
