We seek a dynamic senior investigator, with a passion for excellence in interdisciplinary science, for the position of Associate Dean for Research (ADR) at the Indiana University Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health (FSPH) at IUPUI. The IUPUI Campus in Indianapolis is the focal point of health professions education at Indiana University. The ADR will be responsible for providing visionary leadership and oversight for the School’s research enterprise as we continue to build our reputation for scholarly and academic excellence, expand our extramural funding base, and uphold our commitment to community-engaged public health research. The ADR reports to the Dean and serves on the School’s Executive Leadership Team.
Our preference is for a public health oriented physician-scientist with research experience in cancer prevention and control, who may also represent the school at the IU Melvin & Bren Simon Cancer Center. Candidates should have a successful record of funded research and peer-reviewed publications and must be qualified for a faculty appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure in one of the School’s five departments. Experience and leadership in building and maintaining collaborative research teams, mentoring junior faculty, and development of faculty research programs are preferred. In addition, experience with the development of research infrastructure and the evaluation and enhancement of research productivity is highly desirable.
The FSPH, established in 2012, is fully accredited by CEPH and offers three PhD programs, an MPH with five concentrations, an MHA program, several other master’s degree programs, and BS degrees in Health Services Management and Public Health. Prior to 2012, the School was a department within the IU School of Medicine where strong ties remain.
Concurrently, the IU Melvin & Bren Simon Cancer Center, part of the IU Health System, is Indiana’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center that provides patient care, and is one of only 69 in the nation. The IU Health System, headquartered at IUPUI, includes 17 hospitals and multiple clinics throughout the state with 2.7 million patient encounters annually. The FSPH also has strong ties with multiple other hospital systems throughout the state and region.
The FSPH has extensive, well-established collaborations with schools and centers across our campus, as well as in the surrounding community. Especially strong research and educational collaborations are present with the schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Science. Other resources on the IUPUI campus contribute to our success in research including the IU Simon Cancer Center, the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, and Regenstrief Institute, Inc. Long-standing collaborations are in place with key community entities, including the Indiana State Health Department, the Marion County Health Department, and a wide variety of community organizations and industry partners.
The salary and compensation are nationally competitive and commensurate with experience, including an attractive benefits package. We are committed to building a diverse faculty and encourage applications from minorities and women.
