Swaziland Study Abroad Program

Join us, and you’ll be able to examine the health care system in the Kingdom of Swaziland through formal lectures, course readings, and placements in community organizations. Plus, you’ll have unique experiences that you can find only in this beautiful, green African country.


  • Meet leaders from local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and non-profit organization to learn about their work to control and reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS, the number one cause of death in Swaziland
  • Learn firsthand how soccer can be used to communicate health messages and HIV/AIDS prevention with the local soccer league, the Manzini Sundowns
  • Discuss local health care challenges and initiatives with staff from the Peace Corps and the Swaziland Ministry of Health
  • Get a briefing on U.S. priorities in public health in Swaziland at the U.S. Embassy
  • Visit area child-led homesteads to meet communities of AIDS orphans who are supporting themselves
  • Observe economic development efforts, including cottage industries such as glass blowing, honey production and local crafts, created to help local residents improve their quality of life
  • Use cross-cultural communication skills and strategies to interact with local community members from all walks of life
