We invite you to join us for the Inaugural DrPH Lecture "The Kimberly Bergalis Case: South Florida HIV Transmission from a Healthcare Worker to a Cluster of Patients" on Thursday, August 16, 12:00 - 1:00pm, School of Dentistry, DS 114, on the IUPUI campus.
There have been acrimonious disagreements over policies relating to HIV-infected healthcare workers since Dr. David Acer infected six patients in his Florida dental office in 1990. One of his patients, Kimberly Bergalis, went on to become a visible political symbol. Gene Matthews, JD, will discuss the response from Congress, the White House and the CDC in this inaugural lecture for the DrPH in Global Health Leadership. All are invited to attend.
Gene Matthews, JD, serves as the Senior Investigator at the North Carolina Institute for Public Health (NCIPH) at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health. He also directs the Southeastern Regional Office of the Network for Public Health Law funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
