On September 19, Dr. Cynthia Moore will present The Public Health Response to Zika Virus: An Outbreak of a Newly-Recognized Teratogen.

Dr. Moore, a pediatrician, clinical geneticist, and birth defects epidemiologist, observed the unfolding epidemic first-hand during many visits to affected regions in the Americas.

As part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s response to outbreaks of Zika, Dr. Moore worked with colleagues at the World Health Organization and clinicians in Brazil and the US to delineate the congenital syndrome caused by Zika virus. She also played a critical role in reviewing the ongoing collection of data via pregnancy registries established in the US states and territories.

Learn more about these data and how it is used to develop and update guidance for health care providers of pregnant women and infants affected by Zika virus.
