Dr. Watson Pilots Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program for Re-Entry Population
Dr. Dennis Watson, Associate Professor in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department, and Dr. Bradley Ray, Assistant Professor in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, published the article, Developing Substance Use Programming for Person-Oriented Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT): protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial, detailing a project he and colleagues are piloting at Public Advocates in Community Re-Entry (PACE). The article introduces a new program for working with the ex-offender, re-entry population who are in recovery from substance use disorder. SUPPORT's community-driven and recovery-oriented approach has the potential to address the gap in evidence-based substance use disorder treatment and services for returning inmates.
Dr. Watson's team will pilot test the SUPPORT intervention at PACE in preparation for a multisite clinical trial.
