IndyStar Features Dean Halverson's Tobacco Tax Op-Ed
In early February, the IndyStar published an Op-Ed by Dean Paul Halverson of the Fairbanks School of Public Health. In the article, Dean Halverson explains why "we cannot afford to take baby steps in tackling the tobacco epidemic in Indiana. The easiest way to improve Indiana's health and economy is to curtail tobacco usage, the state's leading cause of lost productivity and preventable death." The General Assembly is considering an increase in the state's cigarette tax, what Dean Halverson believes is the best way to decrease tobacco usage.
