We work with international partners to establish grassroots maternal and child health initiatives in their local contexts. Currently, these leaders are bringing about systems changes in Morocco and Venezuela.
Global Grassroots MCH

Key Accomplishments
- Venezuela: We were honored to be selected by the US Dept. of State to present our Grassroots MCH Initiative framework to 10 female Latin American leaders working to advancing women’s social and economic empowerment in their nations. Because of this, we are now partnering with a female member of the duly elected Venezuelan National Assembly, a regional leader of the Venezuela Society for Childcare and Pediatrics, and a national women’s empowerment leader to grow a Grassroots MCH Leadership curriculum for Venezuela and are creating simple MCH handbooks for them to use to help develop intervention strategies that hospital, community clinic and community settings can employ to improve MCH outcomes.
- Morocco: Dr. Turman’s nine-year engagement with Morocco (2016 – Fulbright Specialist Scholar at Hassan 1st University) has worked to help build MCH programming in the nation. In spring 2022 his Moroccan colleague, Dr. Loubna Amahdar, was a Fulbright scholar with the Grassroots MCH Initiative team. She helped us implement programming at Al-Haqq Foundation, and we trained and mentored her in the Grassroots MCH Initiative framework. She translated all our materials into French and made them relevant to the Moroccan context. We are now working alongside her as she is now working to start the Grassroots MCH Initiative in Morocco.
