The Social Determinants of Health microcredential from the Fairbanks School of Public Health prepares students to meet the expectations of public health, healthcare, and community-oriented employers by focusing on the social determinants of health.
This program includes two courses and an experiential component. The introductory course, PBHL-S120 Intro to Community Health, introduces students to living in community from a public health perspective, covering key community topics and theories.
The experiential component deepens this learning through reflection and critical thinking, helping students examine personal biases, investigate the impact of various factors on community cohesion, and understand how social status affects marginalized communities.
